The Grain Rain falls in late spring between April 19 and 21. During this solar term, temperature rises and so does rainfall. It is hence a prime time for planting crops, especially bean and melon seeds. The warmer weather also enlivens marine life, bringing many closer to the shore. Fishermen in China observe the tradition of making sacrifices to the sea on the first day of Grain Rain, as a prayer for safe voyages.
