Frost Descent
The Frost Descent falls on today. After this solar term, dew becomes frost as the weather gets colder with each passing day. The temperature of the land surface drops below 0℃ and the moisture in the air reaches saturation point, water vapor transforms into a thin layer of white crystals, which we call frost. In meteorology, the frost appears first in autumn is called the “first frost”, and the frost appears last in spring the “last frost”. If there is frost on the day of Frost Descent, there will be a good grain harvest in the coming year.
People eat persimmons around the Frost Descent as they are fully mature. Persimmons with frost on the surface are the sweetest. It’s said that eating such persimmons can prevent you from catching a cold in winter. They can be eaten fresh or as preserved fruit.
