Oskar Munsterberg, a 19th century German art historian of East Asia, wrote 3000 Years of Sino-Western Art Exchanges (originally the first volume of Art History of China). From the vertical development of history, that is, from the Neolithic Age to the end of the Qing Dynasty, this book interprets the logic and characteristics of the evolution of Chinese art styles. Taking the introduction of Buddhism into China as the dividing line, the author presents the artistic dialogue and communication between China and the West in the past three thousand years through ancient Chinese and foreign stone carvings, bronzes, pottery, paintings, sculptures and other works.

321 black and white plates and 15 color plates are included in the book, including pictures of the original cultural relic stored in the British Museum in London, the Gemme Museum in Paris and the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, as well as photos taken in China, from which we can get a glimpse of the vigorous development of Traditional Chinese art in the long history.
