Created by the acclaimed directorial duo Han Zhen and Zhou Liya (known as the "Twin Stars of Dance"), Yong Chun is an innovative dance drama from the Shenzhen Opera and Dance Theatre. It masterfully tells two parallel stories. One follows the legendary martial arts master Ip Man as he arrives in Hong Kong to establish his Wing Chun school. The other follows a modern-day film crew in Shenzhen striving to make a movie about his life. This "play within a play" structure creates a rich dialogue between past and present, exploring the shared theme of pursuing one's dream against all odds.

The production's brilliance lies in its groundbreaking fusion of traditional Chinese martial arts and contemporary dance. The choreography seamlessly integrates the precise, powerful movements of five major kung fu styles—most notably Wing Chun—with the fluid expression of classical and modern dance. Every punch, block, and stance is transformed into poetic motion.

Its visual artistry is equally stunning. The stage design cinematically shifts between 1930s Hong Kong and a present-day film set. The dancers perform in costumes made from " Gambiered Canton Gauze(香云纱)," a unique, iridescent silk from the Lingnan region, which is also an Intangible Cultural Heritage. The fabric’s elegant drape and changing luster in the light accentuate every movement, symbolizing the cultural thread connecting the two eras. Yong Chunis more than a performance; it is a living, breathing piece of cultural innovation where heritage inspires a stunning new form of artistic expression.
