Originating in the rural courtyards of Sichuan (四川), "Jiudouwan" (九斗碗)—or "Nine Big Bowls"—is a grand open-air banquet celebrating life's major milestones, such as weddings and festivals. The name reflects the auspicious number nine, symbolizing eternity and good fortune, while "dou" denotes the large serving bowls.

Often referred to locally as a "Baba Banquet" (坝坝宴) because it is held in open courtyards, this feast is renowned for its lively atmosphere and massive scale. The culinary centerpieces are rich steamed dishes (蒸菜), most notably the savory roasted pork belly with mustard greens (咸烧白) and the sweet roasted pork layered with red bean paste and glutinous rice (甜烧白). Bringing together family, neighbors, and friends, this centuries-old tradition offers a profound taste of Sichuan's vibrant community spirit and culinary soul.
