Batik Techniques (Huangping Batik)

Huangping batik is a folk art created and used by Gejia women, possessing unique artistic features as well as historical, aesthetic, ethnological, and scientific value.

With a long history, Huangping batik is one of the oldest traditional batik arts on the Guizhou Plateau. It uses only blue-white or black-white color schemes: blue or black as the background, with pure white patterns. Flawless lines, no breaks, and sharp contrast are its distinctive features.

The composition is unique and symbolic. Centered on the sun, it reflects the Gejia belief that all things revolve around it. The patterns express harmony between humans and nature, conveying the Gejia people’s love for beauty, life, and labor.
