A Lingnan-themed city walk can begin in Guangzhou and conclude in Foshan.

High-speed rail and intercity trains make the transfers quick and convenient, with journeys of around 30 minutes between each destination. Plan three to four days to explore at an easy, relaxed pace.

Start at the Chen Clan Ancestral Hall in Guangzhou, known for its intricate wood, brick and clay carvings.

Wander through Yongqingfang, then stroll along Enning Road in the late afternoon to experience the lingering rhythm of old Guangzhou.

Visit the Foshan Ancestral Temple to experience lion dance and martial arts traditions up close. Continue to Lingnan Xintiandi for a walk through restored historical streets that connect past and present.

In Foshan's Shunde district, take your time exploring Qinghui Garden, then roam the surrounding streets of Daliang to observe local life.

Don't forget to sample Shunde's local cuisine along the way, for which the area is widely known.

Getting around:

Walking is the best way to experience historical neighborhoods, supplemented by metro, buses or short taxi rides. Many architectural and cultural details reveal themselves only at a slower pace.

Tips:

Lingnan's climate is warm and humid. Bring sun protection and stay hydrated, especially in spring and summer. During the rainy season, a light raincoat or umbrella is useful. Comfortable shoes are essential for extended walking through old neighborhoods.
