This is an extremely luxurious imitation piece. Made entirely of porcelain, it mimics gold, silver and inlaid gems. In Buddhism, the Dharma Wheel represents the endless cycle of Buddha‘s teachings, overcoming worldly afflictions. This object was likely a ritual implement or offering vessel used by Emperor Qianlong for Buddhist worship.

The Craftsmanship

The wheel is flat and coated on both sides with gold ground glaze, carved with dense interlocking vine patterns. The most stunning feature is the gems: the inner rim is set with simulated rubies, sapphires and emeralds made of porcelain, while the center features larger faux gems and turquoise. The wheel rests on a leaf-shaped handle and a circular pedestal. Every “jewel” is actually fired ceramic, looking so real they could fool the eye.
