Dehua Porcelain Firing Technique

Originating in central Fujian, Dehua porcelain flourished in Tang-Song and peaked in Ming-Qing dynasties. Using premium kaolin, it's shaped by hand or mold casting and high-fired, with techniques preserved for millennia.

Master He Chaozong created eight shaping techniques, known as "pinching, sculpting, carving, scraping, joining and pasting", in the Ming Dynasty. His sculptures, hailed as "Oriental Art Treasures", were collected by European royalty. The export tradition continued, winning modern international awards.

While innovating on tradition, Dehua porcelain now faces a crisis. With artisans averaging 60 years old and few young successors due to the long learning cycle, urgent preservation measures are needed.
