Tibetan Carpet Weaving Craft of Jiaya
Tibetan carpets are traditional handicrafts of Qinghai's Tibetan people, with over 3,000 years of history. They are divided into two styles: Kham (e.g., Yushu) preserves traditional techniques, while Amdo (e.g., Jiaya carpets) blends Tibetan and Han cultures, featuring distinctive patterns and harmonious colors.
Jiaya carpets are primarily made in Jiaya Village (Huangzhong County) and nearby Tibetan areas. They use natural materials like Tibetan sheep wool and yak hair, dyed and woven at low temperatures for vibrant, fade-resistant results. The carpets are thick (over 15mm) with untrimmed edges, available in 14 series and 70+ varieties.
The craft is deeply tied to Tibetan Buddhism, prized for its eco-friendly methods and health benefits, offering artistic, historical, practical, and commercial value.
