Inheritation of Woodblock Printing

diao.jpg

Since you have known the history of woodblock printing last week, today we are going to introduce you its inheritation.

Rongbaozhai woodblock printing was inherited and developed based on the traditional watercolor block printing and woodblock printing techniques. Before its emergence, Chinese paintings could only be copied through manual imitation, heavily dependent on the copier’s skills, and also an understanding of the original creator’s intention and conception.

In 1896, Rongbaozhai set up the “Tietaozuo” agency, officially launching its woodblock printing business. In the beginning, it only produced some simple works such as paper for writing letters or poems. Rongbaozhai’s early development in woodblock printing was occasionally and inevitably related to two Chinese painting masters Zhang Daqian and Xu Beihong (1895-1953, famous for his birds and horses’ works), who made Rongbaozhai woodblock printing more elegant.
