The 13th Wuzhen Theatre Festival unveils its program lineup at a news conference on Aug 11, with 25 productions from 10 countries set to deliver 71 performances across 12 venues under the theme "Serene Transcendence."

The festival opens with Thomas Ostermeier's production of The Wild Duck by Berlin's Schaubuehne Theater, and closes with French director Maelle Poesy's Cosmos. Notable Chinese and cross-cultural works include Stan Lai's Twilight Sky and artistic director Meng Jinghui's The Playboy of the Western World. A new venue, Expo Center Hall A2, will debut, while the outdoor carnival will feature over 1,000 street performances throughout Wuzhen's historical alleys.

For the first time, the Emerging Theatre Artists' Competition has opened to global participants, and the festival has eliminated online reservations for competition and readings—tickets will now be given on a first-come, first-served basis. Tickets go on sale in two rounds: Aug 22 and Sept 5.
