The 2025 Music in the Summer Air festival, or MISA, will take place from July 1 to 13. The event will bring together four professional symphony orchestras, seven music ensembles, a number of student art groups, and nearly 50 conductors and solo artists. Audiences have 29 live performances, over 20 online broadcasts, and a wide array of engaging activities to look forward to.
Alongside the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, which is hosting the event, MISA will once again welcome the New York Philharmonic and Philharmonisches Staatsorchester Hamburg. The New York Philharmonic will headline the festival's opening two days. Esteemed conductor Esa-Pekka Salonen, a Grammy Award winner and former music director of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, will inaugurate the festival with Claude Debussy's La Mer.
For the first time, game music will be showcased, with classic scores from popular entertainment properties like Genshin Impact and Monster Hunter performed by the Ningbo Symphony Orchestra.
Additionally, three innovative concerts will pay tribute to the 340th anniversary of the great Baroque Era composer Johann Sebastian Bach.
