Emperor Kangxi wasn't just a monumental ruler of the Qing Dynasty; he was also a master of Chinese calligraphy. Deeply immersed in Han culture, he became captivated by the elegant and flowing brushwork of the Ming Dynasty master Dong Qichang.

By blending Dong’s signature grace with his own imperial grandeur, Kangxi developed a unique, confident, and well-rounded style. He frequently turned to the brush during his rare moments of leisure, leaving behind legendary stone inscriptions like the majestic Jiang Tian Yi Lan (A Panoramic View of River and Sky). His royal endorsement sparked a court-wide passion for Dong’s calligraphy, beautifully showcasing the profound, unifying power of traditional Chinese culture.
