Facing Xujiahui Park, Bai’s Restaurant is a Shanghai-style eatery hidden in an alley. Its old-fashioned signboard indicates that it opened in 1985 and bears four Chinese characters translated as “Fine Wine Hidden in Deep Alley”, demonstrating the time-honored restaurant’s confidence.

The restaurant isn’t big. The first floor has meager decoration like an ordinary rural eatery but creates a carefree ambience. The VIP rooms on the second floor must be reserved in advance. The most famous dish in the restaurant is pork balls with crab sauce. Meatballs in chicken soup are mixed with minced water chestnuts, which are incredibly appetizing.
