Yi, or clothing, is the common term for all other costumes. They can be further divided into four sub-categories: Chang Yi (long gowns), Duan Yi (short robes), Pei Jian (accessories) and Zhuan Yong Yi (special garments).
Kai Chang is a category of Chang Yi used by generals or high-ranking government officials.
Guan Yi (one type of the Chang Yi), attire for lower- or middle-ranking officials, is made of coloured brocade. The colour indicates the official's ranks. Purple and red designate higher ranks, followed by blue for the middle ranks and black for the lowest.
All officials wear hats adorned with wings on each side.
