The First Chinese Nobel Laureate in Literature
As the only Chinese laureate, Mo Yan didn’t graduated from a primary school. When he was a teenager, he repeatedly read the Concise Edition of General History of China which was bought by his mother after selling her wedding jewelry. In his 20s, he wrote in spare time in army barracks. He constantly pondered how to push his limits in a sunflower field at the age of 35. He is always passionate about and devoted to writing. ‘Don’t try to be an omnipotent writer. Write the part of life you’re the most familiar with,’ said Mo.
