Amid booming tourism, traditional flower patterns with red-and-green peony elements have become a hot trend in Harbin, northeast China. As a way to engage the local culture, visitors are seen dressed in cotton-padded and down-padded jackets featuring the colorful patterns.

Once considered a country look, the eye-catching pattern has a cultural significance in northeast China's folk customs. It was traditionally used to make colorful quilts for newlywed couples, as a gift of good luck from their families.
