A variety of Yao ethnic traditions were part of the Liuyueliu festival celebration on Sunday in Longsheng county, Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region. It was the sixth day of the sixth month of the Chinese lunar calendar.

On this special day, the women of the Red Yao people in Dazhai village had a joyful gathering during which they showcased their red costumes, combed their long hair, demonstrated how to make folk costumes and held a mass wedding.

The Liuyueliu festival is also widely known as sun clothes day — a day that local women hang their brightly colored costumes, mostly red, in the sunlight by the window, creating a feast for the eyes.

During the events, hundreds of Red Yao women untied their hair buns and combed the surprisingly long hair, which often extended to their lower legs.

Near the Longji terraced fields, a traditional wedding ceremony was held. The terrace of Arcadia green and the newlyweds and their bridal procession in bright red added radiance to each other and made a breathtaking picture.

Last year, Dazhai village was named Best Tourism Village by the United Nations World Tourism Organization, attracting many international tourists. Therefore, for Longsheng county, the Liuyueliu festival is not just for the Yao ethnic group but stands as an iconic event to show the fruits of China's rural revitalization.
