SHI JIE launches seasonal collection in Hangzhou

SHI JIE, the eponymous fashion brand by Chinese designer Shi Jie, released its 2024 A/W collection "The Child of Nature—Rough Jade" on Saturday in the E-Fashion Town of Hangzhou, East China's Zhejiang province.

Set to live music of guzheng (a Chinese plucked string instrument), models presented 80 garments from the designer's latest practice during the show, which was a part of the 2024 China International Fashion Week.

A renowned designer versed in oriental aesthetics and contemporary art, Shi borrowed inspiration from ink art and calligraphy, embodying the combined strength and gentleness that characterize the ancient Chinese art forms.

All made of natural materials including silk, linen and long-staple cotton, all sourced in China, the collection features pants and dresses of loose, wide silhouettes which evoke the unrestrained, expressive Chinese xieyi (freehand brush work) paintings as well as clean-cut jackets made of Western tailoring techniques, delivering an elegant yet powerful statement.

Speaking of the collection's theme, Shi said that everyone is like a piece of rough jade endowed with natural strength and beauty. He hoped that his clothes could help the wearer feel more connected with nature and their inner strength.
