Zhang Xiaoquan Scissors began with a simple, practical purpose: to create better, more reliable tools. Since its founding in Hangzhou in 1663, the craft has evolved from a family workshop's dedication into a renowned Chinese heritage brand.

The key lies in the Inlaid Steel Forging technique. A piece of high-quality steel is inlaid into the cutting edge of wrought iron, then forged through over 70 steps. Under high heat, steel and iron fuse, creating a blade that stays sharp and a body that remains springy, allowing for smooth and effortless cutting.

Beyond utility, it is also an art form. Many scissors are decorated with hand-engraved patterns—West Lake scenes, flowers, birds—adding artistic charm to these everyday objects.

Praised for their quality, Zhang Xiaoquan Scissors entered the Qing imperial palace and received recognition from Emperor Qianlong. In the 20th century, they began to represent Chinese craftsmanship globally, winning awards at international exhibitions such as the 1915 Panama-Pacific International Exposition and the 1926 Philadelphia Sesquicentennial, building a reputation worldwide.

Today, while preserving its core techniques, Zhang Xiaoquan has grown into a modern enterprise. Its products have expanded from household scissors to kitchen knives, garden tools, and more. It remains a trusted tool in daily life and has become a cultural symbol—embodying the lasting dedication of Chinese craftsmanship to improving the objects we use every day.
