Bronze Mirror with Four Raised Bosses and Chilong

This bronze mirror, measuring 17.7 cm in diameter, is an exquisite embodiment of the Han Dynasty's "microcosmic" worldview. Its decorative design unfolds layer by layer from the center outward. The central knob, shaped like a cluster of mountain peaks, symbolizes lofty mountains, while sixteen inward-facing arc motifs encircle it, evoking the celestial dome. In the main decorative field, four raised bosses divide the surface into four equal sections, each filled with stylized, intertwining chilong motifs—abstract representations of hornless dragons commonly found on Han Dynasty bronzes. Another band of sixteen arc motifs decorates the rim, creating a complete and harmonious composition.
