Hebei Bangzi Opera has four types of roles. Male roles with painted faces are noted for their singing, posture and performance of martial arts. Some wear variegated faces. A unique male role in Hebei Bangzi Opera wears a unicolor face and a white false beard, but sings and chants in a way similar to that of a painted-face male role.
