Five thousand years ago, humans created the Hongshan culture. It was a time when man and nature faced each other directly, when life and hearts, as well as imagination without distractions, were expressed and transmitted in their hands.

The dragons are different in meanings between China and other countries. In China, we believe it is a symbol of power, authenticity, and good fortune. So, there are a lot of dragon images in Chinese art works.

People differ in opinion as to the origin of the dragon. Some believe it was derived from the lizard, others believe it was derived from the crocodile.

Diverse theories say the head of the dragon came from that of the ox, pig or horse. An early image of the creature, the head of the dragon in the picture has features of a pig: wide mouth, protruding upturned snout and two nostrils on a flat surface.

It is made of blackish green jade and exquisitely carved and polished, about 26 cm high. Unearthed in 1973 at Sanxingtala, Ongniud Banner, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, this jade carving is of high artistic value.
