The Summer Solstice falls between June 21 and 22. On this day, the Sun's rays shine down on the northernmost point it could reach on earth, almost directly over the Tropic of Cancer. In the Northern Hemisphere it is the longest day of the year. In many regions of China, people keep to the tradition of eating noodles on this day. After the Summer Solstice, the hours of daylight in the Northern Hemisphere shorten with each passing day. There is abundant sunshine around this time, and temperatures in most parts of China are high. The plentiful rain at this time also plays an important role in agricultural yields.
