We've talked about benevolence, righteousness, and rites, and all three concepts seem a bit abstract. Did Confucius have any ideas that were particularly instructive in practice? Yes, Zhi (intelligence), which is interpreted as “cleverness, wisdom, intelligence” in The Analects. Confucius definitely defined zhi as one of the qualities attributed to those of virtue. In his works he even rates it as a quality applicable to all world affair.

Confucius' remarks about wisdom consist of two segments. First, one should adopt a matter-of-fact approach towards knowledge. One is expected to be honest when it comes to what he knows and what he is ignorant of; and one should never affect the air that he knows something while actually he does not.
