No Permanent Teacher

Once Confucius stopped at the State of Wei on his tour around the vassal states, a man asked his disciples from what source Confucius' knowledge came from. His disciples replied, “People of competence know important affairs, while ordinary people, insignificant arts. Because of this Confucius seeks advice from all the people. How is it possible for him to have only one permanent teacher? That is why he is so learned!” It is a fact that Confucius had no permanent teacher. He said, "Of every three pedestrians in the street, there is one who is qualified to be my teacher in a certain field." Throughout his life, he did indeed learn from others whenever and wherever necessary.
