White Dew

White Dew, the 15th solar term of the year and the third of autumn, is an important solar term reflecting the increase of cold air in nature. As the weather gradually turns cool, the weather is still sunny and hot during the day, but the temperature will soon drop in the evening. We can say that autumn has come.

After White Dew, the most climate-sensitive migratory birds migrate en masse. Swan geese began to fly from the north to the south, and the southern blackbirds also flew to the north. Chinese people have the custom of drinking white dew tea, eating sweet potatoes and drinking rice wine during White Dew. According to Chinese health habits, at this time, people should pay attention to preventing seasonal allergies and respiratory diseases, and open windows to ventilate the room frequently.

Today’s poster is from Du Fu’s Poetic Pictures by Wang Shimin, a painter from the Qing Dynasty. There are 12 paintings in this set, each with a poem written by Du Fu. This set of paintings, 39 centimeters in length and 25.7 centimeters in width, is currently housed in the Palace Museum in Beijing.
